Driving and Biking in the Big City

Riding with the morning dew

with 4 comments

The morning dew unfolds her dense damp coat and wraps it around me.
I smell her thick breath and feel her warm body close against mine.
Her glistening company pulses on my back, my arms, my legs.
She will walk every path, ride every mile, heavy and present.

The grass sparkles lushly from the even-handed Big Dipper
Sun-dried openings beneath the heavy canopy
Thick patches of abundant greenery in the shade.
One now thankful; the other hopeful. Equals at dawn.

The diamonds from the night now decorate the earth.
A single drop of dew plops onto a wild flower along the path.
Another and another, choosing blue, red, yellow and purple.
As big as the muddy toad that croaks and then dives.

The first trickle of sweat comes from under my hat.
Soon, I feel it on my back and legs, creating a cool river
That runs the length of my body, pooling briefly
Before the temperature reflects the growing morning heat.

A breeze blows over me likework-from-home-3 a cool sip of water
Whispering in my ears, exhaling into my face.
I see it coming from far ahead, starting with the trees
The branches sway and wave, each bowing in their turn.

The dawning creatures stir from behind bushes.
Blinking eyes grow wide at the site of a stranger.
Morning songs call from the branches and deep grass.
Who? Who? Asks a visitor from the night.

A flaming butterfly dips and glides along the wind stream
Merging with the season’s first dried leaves.
It drenches me like a wave from the ocean
A miraculous pulse from eternal sea and mother earth.swaty
